Richard Aronowitz-Mercer: Wynstones Alumnus and Trustee

Not only is Richard a former student of our school but he is also a current trustee. Listen as Richard takes us on his mother’s journey as a German Jewish refugee who was taken in by the Michael Hall Steiner School in 1939, to sending all four of her children to Waldorf schools, including Wynstones.

Richard’s unique history has had an incredible impact on his chosen path of specialising in Nazi Loot hunting for Sotheby’s. We also discuss decolonialisation and the shift that has occurred in many industries over the past few years, the new Wynstones bursary program, and the ‘worldly version of Waldorf’ that Richard feels we are establishing.

As a Senior Director at Sotheby’s London, Richard has worked at Sotheby’s in a variety of roles since 1997. He has a BA in Modern Languages from Durham University, an MA in Modern Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art and is now completing a Masters at Oxford University. Richard is also an accomplished author and poet, publishing poems in The Independent, The Guardian and many small-press magazines; he has published three novels, Five Amber Beads, It’s Just the Beating of My Heart, and An American Decade.
