“I was born in Ottawa and started my school life in the Canadian education system. My parents were so struck by the negative impact that it had on me that they began the search alternatives. In 1984 they discovered the newly opened Ottawa Waldorf School, where I spent Class 1 and 2. In the summer of 1986, we moved to the UK and my sister and I joined Wynstones where we stayed until we left at the end of Class 12.
“Waldorf education provided me with the opportunity to discover my own interests, take ownership of my own learning and to grow at my own pace. Wynstones nurtured that growth, and when I reached a stage that it could no longer teach the subjects I wanted to study it supported me in finding a way to study science A Levels at Stroud College, whilst continuing to finish Class 12.
“After leaving Wynstones, I studied Sport Science and Physics at Loughborough University then trained to be a secondary school teacher. My early career as a teacher, and my subsequent time working as a School Sports Co-ordinator, enabled me to look at my experience of Wynstones through a different lens; better understanding both the strengths and weaknesses of the school.
“Since leaving teaching, I have pursued a career in marketing, founded and run two marketing agencies, and at board level at Wattbike, an exercise bike company, and Metia, a global marketing agency. Much of my career has involved working abroad, with spells in the US, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania, but am most happy returning home to my wife and two daughters in Nottingham.
I hope that my experience in business and background in teaching will give me the perspective to help, support, and guide Wynstones as the school reopens.”
