Welcome to our Upper School

Classes IX - XII (age 14-18)

Our task is the unfolding of the inner child into an independent adult. Our core principles are freedom, responsibility and collaboration.

Pupils entering the Upper School from a Steiner Waldorf school are so ready for what is to come, because they have not been forced to take in an excess of abstract knowledge in the previous years. They look forward with excitement to the new subjects and new vistas of knowledge that await them and, as a rule, their attitude is that of the alert critic rather than the tired sceptic.

There is a strong desire to form their own conclusions in questions of knowledge, because this is the age of thinking, reason, logic ...and of questioning: they are adolescents and they are going to push the boundaries in their search for truth, asking 'why?' and 'why not?', striving for objectivity, taking nothing for granted, searching for the evidence and the observable scientific proof. In the social, economic, political and artistic fields too, our task is to help pupils overcome purely subjective sympathies and antipathies, to allow them to find an objective approach ...even in the area of emotions.

The teaching is now taken over by specialist teachers who have been trained in depth in their subjects. These teachers must be ready to explain fully whatever they say both on an academic and human level - all their statements may be queried by the enquiring students, and the classes often consist for the most part of conversations and discussions.
